Cook Like a Local: Your Riverside Thai Cooking Half-Day Class at Khuk Khak Beach, Khao Lak

Summary: My family and I had a wonderful morning learning to cook delicious Thai food with Apple at Riverside Thai Cooking Class. She picked us up from our hotel, and we went to the Khao Lak market. Apple showed us around, talking knowledgeably about all the fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices that were being sold in the market. Then we went to her cooking school and got to work! We worked as a team with other people, making spring rolls as well as individual dishes that we had chosen to make. Apple and her helpers were very kind and patient with us as we learnt how to cook with the amazing Thai ingredients. Afterwards we all had a feast, trying each other’s creations. Thank you to Apple and her team - a very enjoyable morning. A perfect family outing. Children welcome and encouraged to have a go. Highly recommended.

Summary: Wow wow wow I didn’t realise I could cook. Apple and her daughter and team made this experience well worth a visit. Market visit very informative I didn’t realise there were so many vegetables and different fruits Apple was so good with the her English and made the whole experience fun. I can cook but don’t tell me wife.

Summary: Apple is an amazing teacher and mentor, taking time to explain each ingredient at the market and then exploring each dish back at her well equipped and wonderfully ambient and peaceful kitchen , which is outdoors and located within a beautiful rubber plantation. We were able to choose a dish we want to each learn before the visit and she took time to demonstrate the right way to cut each ingredient. Her two assistants are incredible too! So quiet and go about their support roles making so many steps so much easier. At the end my hubby and I share our meals with a beautiful Singaporean family, and they will us. Such as abundance of food ( 7 dishes in total). The group size was just perfect and I would strongly recommend you use this fantastic opportunity to learn authentic Thai recipes . Getting out of the hotel and seeing how it’s really done was such a game changer for us. We will be back!!!

Summary: We booked the Thai cooking class to have some fun and learn more about the amazing Thai cuisine. We were staying near to the location of the school and it actually coincided with some bad weather as we were in the rainy season. Apple (our host) picked us up from our hotel and took us to her home which is also where the cookery school is located. What an amazing place. Apple is also an amazing host and teacher. Our class was shared with a lady from Germany who was also really friendly and added to the great experience we had as a family at this class. We were asked to choose which dishes we would like to cook beforehand, from around 40 different recipes. We chose spicy glass noodles salad, crispy deep fried belly pork, fried shrimp in a curry powder sauce and pad Thai. This was added to further recipes for spring rolls, dessert spring rolls and a red curry. We shared the preparation and cooking of the dishes between us all and under guidance of Apple and her team. We have twelve year old who can be shy, but she felt totally at home under Apples tuition. All the dishes we prepared were the. Shared with a. Side portion of rice and choice of soft drinks. We were then advised that we would receive all of the recipes via email to prepare at home. After the class we were taken back to our hotel. This was an amazing experience and thoroughly worth booking to get an idea of authentic Thai cooking from a wonderful person and team when visiting the beautiful Khao lak area. Summary: Absolutely wonderful experience! Apple is so welcoming and engaging, with a clear passion for what she does. Her and her staff were very helpful, have clear instructions throughout and answered all the group’s questions thoroughly. During the market visit, Apple talked us through all sorts of products, and explained how we could use them and when they come into season. The food we made was delicious, and we each got to see how the other recipes were made, and the opportunity to try all of the dishes. The facility was clean and well kept, in a beautiful setting surrounded by greenery and near a river. Would highly recommend to anyone, even if cooking isn’t your thing.

Summary: Such a fun and delicious experience at the Thai cooking class! 🍜 Chef Apple was friendly, the recipes were easy to follow, and the food turned out amazing. A perfect mix of learning, laughs, and flavour—highly recommend!

Summary: Spent the afternoon in the company of Apple and her two lovely assistants learning to cook some Thai food. A real challenge for someone who can burn cornflakes!! Were picked up at our hotel spot on time despite a last minute change of hotels. Once at Apples place we were show a few fruits and herbs that she grows or are native to the area. We taken through what we had chosen to cook. First up was making the pastes and bases for our meals and preparing the meat. We then learned how to make spring rolls whilst the meat was cooking. Full hands on experience once back cooking our main meals. All were excellent including my pine which was crispy belly pork, the others were a red curry and a stir fry with chicken and morning glory. Highly recommended even if you don’t cook,

Summary: This was an experience not to be missed. We went in April 2023 and Apple still keeps in touch with recipes and links. The setting, the food, the hospitality everything about it was just a joy. We attended as 5 adults with three children aged 13, 10 and 5 and everyone was given a dish to prepare and the best part was that we got to eat what we made. Thoroughly enjoyable from the pick-up at the hotel, shopping for ingredients at an authentic Thai market through to cooking and eating served by Apples family was magical. We all still talk about our amazing experience at the Riverside and recommend friends who are going to Thailand that this is one activity they must try out.

Summary: Incredible day of fun and way too much food! Red Curry Duck, Massaman Curry, Spring rolls, Banana and chocolate Spring rolls…..so many to remember! A fantastic experience not to be missed!
